A400 was responsible for the design and development of all engineering projects for this urban rehabilitation works in the city of Vila Nova de Gaia.
The Hotel Kopke project involved structural interventions in several buildings constructed between the mid-18th century and the early 20th century, which therefore feature structural schemes based on granite stone masonry and roofs composed of solid timber trusses and traditional ceramic tiles. Most of the existing buildings are in a reasonable state of conservation of the original structures, while others require rehabilitation interventions mainly at roof level. The rehabilitation works include the refurbishment of all existing stone masonry walls to be preserved using minimally intrusive methods, in order to improve their structural performance under the project’s vertical and horizontal actions.
This rehabilitation enabled the revitalisation of a historic building and, consequently, met market needs.
