The Monumental Palace Porto, currently Maison Albar – Le Monumental Palace, is a 5-star hotel located on Avenida dos Aliados in Porto, occupying the former Café Monumental, a historic building dating back to 1923. Following an extensive rehabilitation completed in 2018, the space preserves the original façade and striking features such as the high ceilings and the staircase handrail, combining them with Art Deco and Art Nouveau-inspired design. The architectural project was designed by Architect Audemaro (Atelier Rodapé), with interior design by Artur Miranda and Jacques Bec (Oitoemponto), who recreated the elegance of the building’s golden age.
The hotel features 63 rooms and 13 suites, some with balconies overlooking the historic center, as well as the Michelin-starred restaurant Le Monument. The project involved significant technical challenges, namely the phased demolition associated with façade retention and the construction of a basement below the level of the existing building, carried out entirely below the water table using the top-down method. The result is a hotel that combines historic charm, luxury, and modern comfort, establishing itself as a benchmark of refinement in the city of Porto.
